DIY: Rodeo-themed keepsake box

(Kat Cosley)

If you have a rodeo or western-themed room or party, it can be difficult finding the perfect accessories. With a few materials you can easily make your own decor for a lot less.

Items Needed:

  • Paper mache box

  • Red bandana

  • Material or scrapbook paper with cowboys and rodeo emblems on it

  • Hot glue gun

  • Americana paint in brown and tan

  • Americana Decou Page

  • Scissors

  • Sponge brush

  • Directions:

First, paint the outside of the paper mache box in brown and then paint the inside of the box with tan. (You can use any colors you would like for this). Let it dry for at least 30 minutes, you may need 2 coats of paint, be sure to let it dry at least 10 minutes in between coats.

Now cut out the patterns you would like to place on the top and sides of the box, and then decou page them onto the box by painting a coat of decou page onto the box and onto the back of the pattern and place the pattern down where you would like it and paint over it with another coat of decou page.

Do the same steps for the patters you will be putting onto the sides of the box.

Now cut the bandanna in half and twist it into a long rope, then hot glue it onto the box, be sure that the seams stay sealed. You can do this by adding more hot glue.
