Alief Taylor football is back! ABC13's David Nuno reports.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Alief Taylor football is back.

The Lions are currently 9-0 with a big match-up this Friday against George Ranch. After a couple of down years, the Lions have reclaimed a district title. Alief is a hotbed for talent, so it's no surprise they are winning again.

"We have a 3PT philosophy: That's purpose, passion productivity and tradition, traditionally we have been good," says Alief Taylor head coach, Brian Randle.

Even with their great regular season, the players feel the team has not garnered the amount of respect they deserve, which is just fine.

"It is what it is," says quarterback Dontay Warren. "We are back on it, you can hop back on it. You don't have to but we are going to take it far."

"We just want it to pay off big, end up in Jerry's World," Jeremiah Haydel added.

Brennan Eagles agreed.

"Oh yea a state championship. We have the talent on the team and this is one of the best teams that has come through here," Eagles said.

Eleasah Anderson puts the remainder of the season in perspective.

"We have eight weeks left to go. We just want to finish it off, 16-0," Anderson said.

The Lions defense has always been their calling card and that's complimented well by their quarterback, Dontay Warren, and his 3.6 GPA.

"Guys are always like 'Hey Dontay why are you always at after school tutorials,'" Warren said. "Because I want to go D1 (Division 1)."
