GALVESTON, TX (KTRK) -- UTMB scientists have come with a new test kit to diagnose the chikungunya, the mosquito-borne illness that can cause severe and incapacitating pain.

Researchers used parts of another virus to create a new test for chikungunya.

So instead of having to send off samples to labs for expensive testing, health care professionals can now use the new test developed by UTMB and have a result in less than two hours.
