If you aren't getting the sleep your body needs, you may need to reach for more protein.

Recent research conducted at Perdue University suggests that overweight and obese people trying to lose weight may sleep better with a high-protein diet.

The study was funded in part by the National Pork Board, National Dairy Council, and the National Institutes for Health.

The study tracked 44 participants eating either a normal or a high-protein weight loss diet.

Those who ate more protein reported an improvement in sleep quality after three or four months. The protein sources varied from beer, pork, soy, legumes and milk.

The study findings are published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
