Harris County authorities are rolling out a new program today, designed to help people with low-level nonviolent misdemeanor offenses.

Make It Right! is a one-day event to give people with outstanding Class C warrants or other pending charges in Harris County Precinct 7 a chance to clear up them up without having to go to court.

The event, hosted by the Windsor Village Church, will take place next Saturday, June 11, 2016, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30p.m., at the Kingdom Builders' Center, located at 6011 West Orem in Houston, TX.

According to information provided by Harris County District Attorney Devon Anderson's Office, "the goal is to provide these individuals with an opportunity to 'make things right' for themselves by getting their outstanding warrants removed and their pending cases resolved in a non-traditional and non-confrontational manner, with NO immediate financial cost and NO risk of arrest. In addition to offering participants support as they navigate the process of resolving their warrants, Make It Right! will offer a resource fair with job training, educational opportunities, as well as legal referral services."

For more information about Make It Right! and qualifying offenses, please call (713) 274-0490 or visit www.jp.hctx.net.

In a statement to the press, Anderson is quoted as saying, "We hope to help hundreds of Houstonians with open and pending Class C warrants in Precinct 7, by clearing outstanding warrants from their records. Open warrants can weigh heavily on those who carry them due to the constant risk of arrest following a police encounter. Even for minor violations, open warrants can affect the warrant holder's immigration status, and even his or her ability to get a job or enlist in the armed forces. Please help us spread the word by telling your community members, your family and friends, and your colleagues and classmates, about this opportunity to 'make it right' and clean up their pending and outstanding warrants."
