Houston firefighters cooking for flood evacuees they rescued

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The firefighters of Houston Fire Station 44 are finding a new way to help the flood evacuees, some of whom they rescued during their response to Harvey.

The crew is cooking up a barbecue with the fixings at the fire station located in the east side.

They made the call to local food retailers who then donated 500 pounds of chicken, 170 pounds of sausages, countless loaves of bread, potato salad and beans for the special barbecue.

The crew is asking for volunteers to help serve the food today. The plan is to start service at around 11 a.m. If you can volunteer, meet with firefighters at the fire station located at 675 Maxey Rd., which is just north of the East Freeway.
