Galveston prepares for possibility of severe weather
Residents and city officials alike say they are ready to weather the storm should it reach Galveston.

GALVESTON, TX (KTRK) -- A much different story on Galveston Island as Dallas was pummeled by storms which spawned several tornadoes and killed at least five people just one day after Christmas.

The Seawall was busy like any other Saturday night, but you could see signs the winds were picking up and that the possibility of inclement weather was on its way.

The Galveston Office of Emergency Management says they are working on a game plan should the storm close in near the island.

The focus now is on the peninsula on Highway 87 at 124. That is where it usually floods and can get pretty bad. No extra crews have been ordered for now, but they are on standby.

Down trees and lots of downed power lines are anticipated, but even with that threat, people here do not seem too worried.

Emergency crews out here feel they have prepared well enough. We'll just have to see what happens when the wind and rain really picks up.
