Bank robbers ditch stolen money, clothes and guns under house in Friendswood

FRIENDSWOOD, TX (KTRK) -- Friendswood police have arrested four suspects who they say held up a bank Thursday morning.

Police received a call just before 10:30am from a bank employee's family member about a robbery in progress at the Patriot Bank at 102 W. Parkwood Avenue.

The three men armed with handguns and wearing masks left the bank and got into a gray sedan.

Police believe the gray car was ditched and the suspects got into a black Jeep. GPS trackers placed inside the money bags were used to track the suspects' route. The second suspect vehicle was tracked to Friendswood Lakes Blvd at Eagles Creek. At that time Cornell Simon, 54, was taken into custody. Police say he is now charged with aggravated robbery and his bond is set at $150,000.

At about 4:30pm, a resident in the San Joaquin subdivision called police to report some suspicious people along a ditch in the S. Mission Circle area. A brief search and foot chase, Friendswood officers took the three men into custody.

The Goddard School and Kid City in the vicinity of FM 528 and Friendswood Lakes were in lock down as officers performed a house to house search for the suspects using police officers on foot, all-terrain vehicles and police K-9s. Residents in the Friendswood Lakes/Sterling Creek neighborhood were asked to remain inside their homes and report any suspicious activity. During the search, officers recovered cash, clothing and guns dumped in a home under construction in the Sterling Creek subdivision. A second tracking device was dumped on FM 528 near Leisure Lane. Both bank bags and tracking devices were recovered.
