Every spring, Peeps appear in droves, sparking a passionate love-hate debate.

The gooey, sugary marshmallow treats seem to defy time, age and possibly gravity. The Easter basket staple originally started as yellow blob-like chicks, but quickly expanded to other shapes and eventually a rainbow of colors.

Love 'em, or hate 'em, Peeps are here to stay. Often jokingly described as indestructible, they've been subjected to a litany of experiments with agent such as boiling water, acetone, and even sulfuric acid, without dissolving or disintegrating.

Since they're not going anywhere, you might as well put them to good use. If you've never tried them toasted over fire, you absolutely must. The sugary outside caramelizes, creating a sort of a poor man's creme brulee on a stick. Seriously. Try it.

Some artistically inclined Houston folks see Peeps as more of a design item than food substance. The Peep Jeep is a fan-favorite in the Houston Art Car Parade. And indestructible or not, their design is never the same twice.

Some Peep-plans are met with public ridicule. Peepza was recently created, and quickly shunned, enraging pizza purists.

Not to be outdone, there's this guy and his taco creation:
