Houston chefs nominated for top award in the nation

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Two Houston chefs are up for the top cooking awards in the nation.

Hugo Ortega of Hugo's restaurants and Jianyun Ye of Mala Sichuan Bistro have been nominated for the 2017 James Beard Awards. Both are finalists in the Best Chef Southwest Region category.

Ortega has been nominated as a finalist six times. This is the first finalist nomination for Ye.

The chefs will find out if they won at the awards gala in Chicago on May 1.
