HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Chicken lovers, rejoice. Houston based chain Frenchy's is planning a massive expansion.

Currently, the company has about 33 restaurants in our area, but Frenchy's president Percy Creuzot tells abc13 that the company is now working to open 500 franchise stores over the next 5 to 10 years across the country.

Frenchy's original store is located at 3919 Scott Street near Texas Southern University and the University of Houston on the city's southeast side. The location opened back on July 3rd, 1969.

Now 46 years later, Creuzot said he believes the brand can compete with other big, national chains. He also told Eyewitness News they're planning a big makeover for the original store.

"My dad before he died, he said we owe the Houston community a new store, a better store," said Creuzot. "The other thing is this store is very old and it is hard to work out of."

Creuzot said he credits the chain's success to their "New Orleans style" seasoning on their chicken
