Feeding thousands of hungry children each day
Workers at the Houston Food Bank's Keegan Kitchen prepare meals to keep kids full and healthy

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Dozens of volunteers make sure thousands of kids have something to eat. Day after day they put together meals at Keegan's Kitchen and then distribute those meals to the Boys and Girls Club on Bentley.

They work an assembly line at the Houston Food Bank's Keegan Kitchen, where Monday through Friday they piece together 3,000 meals as part of their kids' cafe program.

Volunteer Stuart Allen said, "No one should go hungry. No one should go without food."

"We know the children don't always have access at home," said Nicole Launder with the Houston Food Bank. "We want to make sure the meal's a little hearty and will get them through the night."

The food bank says these are the children of working parents who just don't make enough to meet all of their needs.
