Shirley Cherian, 31, was found near a closet in a third floor apartment, fire officials said. Family members, friends and co-workers gathered at the complex after Cherian failed to show up for work Tuesday.
The Houston Fire Department says the fire started shortly before 3:30am off Holly Hall and El Mundo, off Highway 288.
Multiple condos were affected by heavy smoke, flames and water damage.
One woman was rescued and we're hearing others may have been taken to the hospital as well. One resident told us a man had burns on his face, hands and neck. The Houston Fire Department confirms one fire victim was taken to a hospital for treatment. One woman went out to her balcony, climbed out onto her roof, and waited for firefighters to help. She was rescued when firefighters carried her down a ladder.
Firefighters declared the fire under control a few minutes after 4am. The top floor of the three-level complex was heavily damaged.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
