CLUTE, Texas (KTRK) -- A fire late Monday morning left a Brazoria County congregation without its church.

According to officials in the town of Clute, the fire happened at Evergreen Baptist Church on Highland Park Drive, located just beyond its city limits.

SkyEye flew over the scene, capturing the church destroyed by fire and crews trying to douse remaining hotspots.

The city confirmed the incident made the structure a total loss.

Officials did not immediately say if anyone was injured or how the fire was caused.

The incident required additional help from crews in Lake Jackson, Oyster Creek, Richwood and Angleton.

The Brazoria County Fire Marshal's Office is handling the investigation, and officials say the federal ATF has been contacted for assistance.
