Designer Diva puts holiday cash back in your pocket

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Want to make some extra Christmas cash? Resale shops are a great way to clean house and pad your wallet or pocketbook.

Designer Diva Resale off Westheimer in southwest Houston is a consignment shop with hundreds of shoe options, gowns galore and designer purses all at discount prices.

The aisles are neatly stocked and all color-coded by category.

"You can surgically strike a specific area," Carole Barela of Designer Diva says. "If you are coming here for a ball gown, you can go right to the ball gowns. We have like 120 feet of ball gowns."

Luxury labels like Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Chanel can be found alongside affordable brand fashions. The store caters to the masses, so prices will be all over from high end to budget friendly.

Plus, the store is a great way to make money. No appointment is necessary and items are accepted all year long, in any season.

"Just bring them in on clean, pressed, on a hanger," Barela said. "Wire hangers are fine."

Just how much can you make on your old wares?

Consigners make 40 percent of the sale, while 60 percent goes to Designer Diva. For high-end labels, the split is 50-50.
