LONDON -- The luxury clothing brand Burberry reportedly burned more than $33 million worth of unsold merchandise last year.

The items, which Burberry decided to destroy rather than sell at a discount, included clothes, accessories and perfume.

Burberry believes the method is a way to control brand authenticity.

The company also says it saves the energy captured in its massive product burns.
