A New Jersey boy is being hailed as a hero after he stepped in and called 911 when his mother suffered a medical condition behind the wheel.

Lacey Township Police Chief David Paprota and Mayor Gary Quinn on Monday hosted 7-year-old Brandon Timoney, of Beachwood, to present him with a special award and give him opportunity to meet police officers and receive a special tour of police headquarters.

Brandon was awarded a Superhero Certificate and given a special Lacey Township Police Department Challenge/Pride Coin that is generally reserved for members of the police department.

Brandon was driving with mom Marilyn Timoney to meet friends at Gille Park around 11:30 a.m. on September 23 when she began to recognize that something was wrong. As she began to feel faint, she quickly pulled her vehicle safely to the side of the roadway near the Mill Pond Elementary School in Lanoka Harbor.

"I took an antibiotic and I had a bad reaction," she said. "And I wound up unconscious."

She was suffering from an acute allergic reaction and was quickly beginning to lose consciousness. She called out to Brandon that something was wrong and that she needed him to call 911 before falling unconscious, and Brandon quickly unbuckled himself from his booster seat and climbed into the front of the vehicle.

"She pulled over and just fell asleep," he said.

He found his mother seated in the driver's seat, unconscious and unresponsive, before searching for and finding her cell phone. He dialed 911, maintained his composure and asked for help.

Although unable to read yet and not knowing what town he was in, he was able to provide essential information that assisted officers in locating the vehicle.

"You always teach your kids 911 and you hope you never have to use it," she said. "And we don't ever want to do that again."

Marilyn Timoney was transported to Community Medical Center, where she made a full recovery.
