Family speaks after man killed by suspected drunk driver
Family members look back at the life of a man killed by a suspected drunk driver while he filled his gas tank.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Sir Reginald Hunter, 26, leaves behind a fiancée and two children, ages 7 and 2, after he was hit by a suspect drunk driver along the Katy Freeway near Barker-Cypress.

Hunter's mother, Juanita Cooper, has seen many accidents in that area when she worked nearby. She never imagined she'd lose her son in that same location off Interstate 10.

"I was told by police he didn't see it coming. He didn't suffer. I just can't believe it," Cooper said.

Hunter ran out of gas Friday and his fiancée brought him a gas can to refill his tank when a vehicle slammed into him and killed him, authorities said.

Man who ran out of gas was killed when he was hit by a suspected DWI driver.

It happened right in front of his fiancée. Cooper said she is still shaken by what she saw.

"The last time I talked to him was earlier that day, and he was in a good place," Cooper said. "He had finally gotten two jobs at the same time that he loved. All he wanted to do was take care of his family."

Police arrested Esteban Gonzalez. He's charged with intoxication manslaughter.

The charges bring some relief to Hunter's family, but as they try to raise money for the unexpected funeral, they're also trying to fully comprehend this devastating loss.

"I still cannot believe. I'm just in total disbelief because all I want to do is call him. I just want to talk to him," Cooper said.

She said Hunter had no life insurance and they're hoping to raise money through a GoFundMe account to bury him and to help care for his two young boys.
