Final Four weekend serves as "dry run" for Super Bowl
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- There were no complaints from fans like Mike Walsh in advance of the NCAA championship.
"I'm from outside New York City so we're used to traffic and crowds up there, so no problem," said Walsh.
That's despite the fact that free concerts at Discovery Green closed both Saturday and Sunday nights when the venue reached capacity.
Doug Hall is the President and CEO of the 2016 Men's Final Four Houston Local Organizing Committee. He says more than 50,000 people a day enjoyed the concerts this weekend.
"We realize that some people didn't get in but many, many thousands did and had a great experience," said Hall.
Hall said public safety is always a big concern, and said along with the NCAA and its partners, decided that having a purely free concert was the way to provide the best experience to the most people.

"There's plenty of messaging to get out there early if you have a Flo Rida, Pitbull, and Maroon 5 at a free concert," said Hall.
The Harris County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management says this weekend was a dry run for the Super Bowl, and it hopes to streamline how fans receive updated information on social media.

"What we're going to do for Super Bow is consolidate to one account so that not only people in Houston but also people that are visiting can have a one-stop shop to find that information without having to search through different," said Sanchez.
