HISD Board of Trustee's Wanda Adams said now is the time to address growing concern over STAAR Exams.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- HISD Board of Trustee's Wanda Adams said now is the time to address growing concern over STAAR Exams. Adams plans to hold an information session about the controversial standardized testing Thursday night at Hines-Caldwell Elementary on Houston's southwest side.

In an interview with Eyewitness News, Adams said with all the talk about STAAR lately she wants parents to know the facts. Some decided to pull their children out of class during testing, describing the move as "opting out."

Adams stressed opting out is currently not allowed under Texas law.

"I support them. I support them on what they're doing because you have to remember, in days past people marched for what they thought was right or wrong. This is a similar way of them standing up," said Adams. "Opting out is their way of saying high stakes testing is wrong and I'm a parent and I want my voice to be heard.

The informational meeting is schedule to start from 5:30 to 6:30 PM at Hines-Caldwell located at 5515 W Orem Drive. HISD staff along with their legal team will be on hand to answer parent questions.
