Hurricane Harvey poem earns student top honor
A high school student's poem on the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey earns her a top honor with the City of Houston.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Rukmini Kalamangalam, a senior at Carnegie Vanguard High School, discusses being named the City of Houston's Youth Poet Laureate. Her poem on the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey earned her the honor. The selection was chosen from dozens of applicants. Kalamangalam is an Indian immigrant who came to America at 6 years old. She says her dream is to one day become an attorney.
