Friends bring prom to sick student
Friends of Madison Hurd aren't letting her miss the prom this year

OMAHA, NE -- When a high school student became too sick to go to her prom, some of her friends brought the prom to her, reports television station KETV.

Madison Hurd of Omaha, Nebraska, had looked forward to the prom all year.

"My dress is here. I worked hard for that dress, so I'm just going to put it up there," she said.

Madison was hospitalized at Children's Hospital last weekend with heart problems and remains in the pediatric ICU

"That's when we knew there was no way she was going to be able to go to her prom," said her mother, Catrece Hurd.

Madison's friends weren't going to let Madison miss the big night, so they brought "The Great Gatsby"-themed prom to her.

"She's always been there for me when I needed it, so I wanted to be there for her," said Madison's friend, Anna Ramsdel.

The hospital nurses also chipped in to make Madison's big night special. They helped her with her makeup and hair and assisted with decorations.

Her boyfriend waited by her bedside with a corsage.

"Even though I'm exhausted, I'm just very happy, very happy, everything, this is better than real prom," Madison said.

School administrators also planned to set up a video chat so Madison could experience some of its prom festivities.
