Community fighting Fort Bend ISD's school rezoning plan
Residents say they paid a premium price to live in one neighborhood so their kids would go to a middle school now at the center of a rezoning plan

SUGAR LAND, TX (KTRK) -- A group of Sugar Land residents are joining forces to protest a new feeder pattern proposed by Fort Bend ISD.

The plan would re-zone most of Riverstone, a master planned community off Highway 6 and Murphy Road, from the current Fort Settlement Middle School to First Colony Middle School.

"People are so unhappy with what they proposed," says resident Vijaianand Thirunageswaram.

Thirunageswaram and about 40 other neighbors have formed a group and are going door to door to let residents know about the proposed change. In the two days since they began their campaign, they have gathered over 500 signatures from residents who are also expressing outrage with the new plan.

Residents say they paid a premium price to live in Riverstone with the promise that their kids would go to Fort Settlement Middle.

District officials say this proposal is just that a proposal. They are encouraging residents to provide feedback before the board makes a final decision early next year.
