HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Thousands of Houston students hit hard by Harvey are getting backpacks filled with school supplies thanks to a local organization.
The Islamic Society of Greater Houston delivered the goodies to kids in Fifth Ward.
HISD students at Hilliard Elementary, Keys Middle and Forest Brook Middle schools are still seeing lingering effects of the historic storm.
Several mosques served as either a shelter or a distribution center during the hurricane aftermath, and now they're taking their help one step further.
This past weekend several volunteers from the mosque and Girl Scout troops came together to fill each backpack with school supplies.
