Police officers to reward good drivers
Several drivers will get an unexpected surprise while driving through Dickinson

DICKINSON, TX (KTRK) -- Imagine starting your day off with being pulled over by a patrol officer who walks up to your car door and says, "I'm an officer with the Dickinson Police Department and we stopped you because you were a good driver."

Several drivers will get this unexpected surprise while driving through Dickinson. Throughout the year, Dickinson Officers will be looking for a few good drivers. As a reward, they're handing out gift cards.

The idea is to help remind people to take a few simple safety steps like fastening seat belts, staying off their cell phone, and driving within the speed limit.

Patrol Captain Jay Jaekel said the program is designed to reinforce safe driving habits and recognize those who strive to make the roadways safe, but there's an even bigger reward for safe driving: no traffic tickets, fewer accidents, and ultimately, lives saved.
