NEW CANEY, Texas (KTRK) -- Students at Crippen Elementary were sheltering in place because there's a gas leak nearby, but that order has been lifted.

Officials with New Caney ISD confirmed before noon the students were being sheltered after the district was alerted to a gas leak at a construction site near the school.

Fire and police officials have determined the area around Crippen Elementary is now safe. The school is no longer sheltering in place.

Officials have indicated that traffic around the campus is now flowing normally. The school day will continue on a normal schedule.
