HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A retired deputy was injured during a gunfight with a robber inside a fast food restaurant in east Houston.

The shooting happened around 8pm at the fast food restaurant in the 12800 block of East Freeway.

Authorities say an armed man walked into the store and tried to rob the store. That's when a retired Harris County Sheriff's Office deputy confronted him and exchanged gunfire.

The deputy was shot once and transported to a hospital in stable condition.

The robbed fled the scene, but police believe he was also shot because he left a blood trail behind.
