HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A 5-year-old Houston boy who has undergone 14 surgeries since he was injured during a gunfight was released from the hospital Friday night.

Sir Romeo Milam was caught in the crossfire at King's Row Apartments, and was battling severe injuries since the incident.

Sir Romeo's family says the road to recovery is just starting. Although Sir Romeo is back home for the holidays, he still faces some major challenges.

"Our biggest fear basically right now is New Years. New Years is when they actually start shooting guns this that and the other," says grandmother.

He is essentially learning to walk again and has to learn balance. The wrong move could hurt his internal organs.

Community searching for answers nearly month after 4-year-old was shot in Sunnyside.

"That smile is just infectious. We just love him," Milam continued.

As for the men who shattered Sir Romeo's life, the boy's grandmother had a message for them.

"Put your guns down. Find something to do," she said.
