HOUSTON (KTRK) -- CenterPoint Energy is now reporting fewer than 5,000 customers are without power in southwest Houston after a large transmission line fell. The cause of the downed line is unknown at this time.

The energy company said earlier this morning that 14,666 customers were without power in the area.

We've heard reports of several loud explosions near their homes in the area.

CenterPoint says the line came down in the 11000 block of Old Main. When the line came down, they say, it brought a distribution line with it.

The company says they've rerouted power in the area to restore it to most customers.

As for the downed lines, CenterPoint says it will take several hours to clear them away from the scene.
