ABC13 hosts virtual job fair featuring positions in Brenham area
BRENHAM, Texas (KTRK) -- If you're looking for work or need career assistance, ABC13 hosts a weekly virtual job fair.
This week, the focus is on the Brenham area.
When it comes to employers in Brenham, you might think of Blue Bell Ice Cream. But it's not the only one in the area.
If you lost your job during the pandemic, experts say positions are starting to come back.
"Some of your smaller companies are starting to hire more people now," Workforce Solutions officer manager Michelle Westlake explained. "Some of your restaurants and retail stores... They're building the Ross distribution center out here."
ABC13 partnered with Workforce Solutions to host the virtual job fair, which featured about 70 jobs in the Brenham area. These are immediate hire positions.
All you have to do is have your resume ready, or create a free profile on the state's website.
The half-hour event occurs on ABC13's website and free streaming apps each Thursday at 11:30 a.m.
Even if you haven't worked in an industry featured, experts said you might be surprised how easily you qualify.
"The skills that I have, is it transferable to another type of occupation where I could look for employment?" Westlake explained.
If you lost your job in the Brenham area, there's free help available. Workforce Solutions offers ways to get assistance with finding jobs, practicing interviews, and even writing resumes.
For more than a year, the services were offered online. But recently the doors were opened to help those who schedule online appointments.
"It feels good. It feels good because we have been closed for so long," Westlake said. "To know we're able to assist the community, even if it's face-to-face, it does feel good."
