What to avoid (and what to buy) on Black Friday
Want to find the best deals? abc13's Patricia Lopez shows you how to save the most on toys and other goods for the holidays.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Before you head out to shop those Black Friday sales, abc13's Patricia Lopez has a list of what you shouldn't buy-and some of the things you should!

What to Avoid on Black Friday

Name-brand televisions

You will see lots of deals on Black Friday, but the problem is, the brands you find are typically unrecognizable. This means questionable specs and quality.

Toys

You should wait nine to 10 days before Christmas, when prices are notoriously lower than Black Friday deals.

Fitness equipment

Treadmills, ellipticals and weight machines will be offered at up to 50 percent off in January so you can meet your New Year's resolutions.

Winter apparel

Your coats and jackets are most expensive during the start of the season. Wait to buy those winter boots and more until the end of the season.

Best Black Friday Deals

Clearance apparel

Retailers will slash their fall fashions at 65 to 75 percent off at stores and brands like Old Navy, Lands' End, Macy's, Kohl's, and American Eagle Outfitters.

Budget laptops

Last Black Friday, Dell had laptops for $177. Expect more of the same this year, with laptops featuring 14 to 15-inch screens with dual-core processors, and two to four gigabytes of RAM.

Tablets

Brands like Samsung, Microsoft and Lenavo have been a major draw in recent years and the deals are pretty amazing. Look for the Samsung Galaxy 4 tablet to drop to $99 on Black Friday. That tablet is currently $179.99 on BestBuy.com right now.

Apple products

Everything except the iPhone, guys. Discounts are modest but worth it, including $41 off the iPad Air and iPad 2, and $21 off the iPod Touch. Do not shop at the Apple store. Instead, buy at discount stores like Walmart or Best Buy.
