67-vehicle pileup kills 2, injures dozens outside Baltimore

BALTIMORE, MD (KTRK) -- A violent wreck involving 67 vehicles is blamed in the deaths of two people and injuring dozens more in Baltimore this weekend.

A third person died in a separate crash as a result of the first accident, WBAL-TV reports.

The Maryland Transportation Authority said a driver got out of their car and was struck by another vehicle right after the accident.

The vehicles began piling up around 4:45am Saturday on I-95 northbound at Eastern Avenue.

A gas tanker ended up falling off the elevated portion of I-95 near downtown Baltimore, bursting into flames as it fell over the jersey wall.

The driver of the tanker was killed, police said.

Maryland Governor Larry Hogan said the accident serves as a sad reminder of how dangerous the roads can be during wintery conditions, especially with Christmas travel still ahead.

Both Hogan's office and Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh offered prayers and condolences to the family of the victims.
