KYLE, TX -- Authorities say four people have died in a fatal wreck caused by a motorist driving the wrong way on Interstate 35 south of Austin.

The wreck early Friday morning involved three vehicles and was triggered by one traveling south in the northbound lanes of I-35 in Kyle.

Kyle municipal spokesman Jerry Hendrix says two men, a woman and a baby in a minivan died at the scene shortly after 1 a.m. Two other children in the minivan were hospitalized with injuries not considered life-threatening.

Hendrix says the driver of a Honda Civic traveling in the wrong direction is hospitalized in critical condition.

The driver of a pickup also involved in the wreck was treated at the scene.

Hendrix says northbound lanes were closed for hours but have since reopened.
