Elderly man attacked in Sunnyside
Another attack on an elderly person in Sunnyside, Chauncy Glover reports.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Just weeks after an elderly woman was sexually assaulted, an elderly man was attacked in the same Sunnyside community.

At the church, the congregation inside prayed for a safer community.

"We pray for our community oh' God," the pastor preached Wednesday night. "It appears there's been a rash of burglaries and robberies."

The community has also become outraged over recent attacks on the elderly.

"We couldn't even stop at the store to buy a loaf of bread until we were attacked," David Morant said. The 63 year-old is the latest victim after he was beaten Tuesday night outside of a corner store near Dulcimer Street and Akard Street.

"This is the result. You know what I'm saying? This is the result," he said.

His eye was swollen shut and black.

Morant says the attack happened when he tried to make conversation with some young guys outside the store.

"I asked them to stay out of trouble. One I guess he's a gang leader yes I don't know the come up to us and hit me like that," he added.

Four suspects started throwing punches and beating Morant, knocking him to the ground where they then stomped him. He says he is sending a specific message to other senior citizens in the community.

"Y'all get a hold of these children because they are not playing with you they will kill you," he said.

Police tell Eyewitness News that the suspects are teenagers. No arrests have been made.

Morant says the bruises are a reminder that his community needs more police and more prayer.

"I just thank God that I'm all right," he added.
