More space, shops coming to The Galleria

HOUSTON

There's super-sized expansion taking shape at the state's biggest mall, so if you love to shop, you're in luck because we got a sneak peek at what's in store.

"This is definitely proof that everything is bigger in Texas," shopper Aliyah Rudoff said.

With enough shopping to make you sweat, a towering crane foreshadows yet another major facelift at The Galleria mall.

"It's exciting that it's getting bigger because it means it will have more stores, more to see, more to do. It's exciting," Rudoff said.

Developers typically shield shoppers from all the mess. On Thursday, they took us inside the multi-million-dollar expansion.

"It's going to be gorgeous," The Galleria's general manager Greg Noble said.

They promise once the 110,000-square-foot project is completed, you'll be impressed.

"It is the stop in Houston to go to," Noble said.

This work centers on Phase III of the massive property, creating a whole new space for Sak's Fifth Avenue, adding restaurants, upscale shops, and one day even a place to call home for high rollers.

"I think the main thing to remember is the purple garage is closed; park in one of our other garages and come enjoy The Galleria," Noble said.

As for the mall faithful, they say bring on the stores, they're ready.

"It's amazing. It's big," shopper Kaspit Gavis said.

"If you strategize, you know where you are going, you know where you are going to park, it's going to be a smooth trip," Rudoff said.

Developers peg spring 2016, so two years from now, as the grand opening.
