Several dogs rescued in NE Harris Co. fire

HOUSTON

The fire on Vickery at Sandydale broke out just after 6pm. A passer-by saw the flames and smoke, and stopped to help. He heard someone say that a man was still inside the home, so he went inside and pulled him out.

The man suffered burns to his face. He was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital.

We're told he raises cocker spaniels in the home. Firefighters were able to save 14 of the dogs, giving them oxygen on the scene as the animals took in a lot of smoke. Some other dogs in the home did die, but we do not know how many.

The cause of the fire is under investigation
