TSU band heading to Canton for Michael Strahan's induction into Hall of Fame

HOUSTON

"The Ocean of Soul is known as the ninth wonder and we always give that amusement every time we perform," said drum major Darius Harris.

The NFL must agree. The team is headed to Canton, Ohio, and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August for Strahan's induction

"We'll be performing in the parade," said TSU director of bands Richard Lee. "We'll also be playing for the induction right before Michael gives his speech."

Strahan, a Super Bowl-winning, record-setting football player for the New York Giants, has made a splash as a television personality, starring on Live with Kelly and Michael and on GMA.

But he has always remembered his roots, evident by an outtake from a promotional video shoot for his alma mater.

"I'm not famous. I'm a working dude," Strahan said. "People don't realize how hard I work. That fame stuff is overrated."

The band is ready to go.

"We've actually already started having small rehearsals of going over music and ideas that we'll able to perform with for this summer," said Harris.

"Our performances are new every time we do them," said dance team captain Lauren Hicks. "We're always bringing something new to the table, something exciting for you all to see. There is something special in the works. You're gonna have to wait and see what we come up with."

The trip isn't cheap. The school is reaching out to the community and alums so that they can be there to support one of their own on an historic day.

"Seeing one of our own actually going into the Hall of Fame is just mind-blowing," said Terrance Bolton of TSU. "It really gives us a sense of 'we can get there, too."
