Eight South Texas deputies fired in civil service exam cheating scandal

The rookies were investigated in March for tampering with government records and misuse of official information. No charges have been filed.

Cameron County Judge Carlos Cascos told The Brownsville Herald it's believed someone took a photo of the test with a cellphone and passed it around to others.

The Cameron County civil service exam was at the center of a separate criminal investigation last year. An administrative assistant had a human resources employee take the exam for an illiterate man. The assistant was found guilty of abuse of official capacity and tampering with government records and sentenced to 10 months in jail.
