Mom: School let child go home with someone not on approved list

When 5-year-old daughter Ra'vone needs to be picked up from school, there are only three people besides her mom who are allowed to take her.

"My sister, my mother and father," Ra'vone's mother, Elena Bradford, said.

But Friday, Ra'vone was allowed to go home with her biological father, a sex offender with an extensive criminal history and with whom Bradford only allows supervised contact.

"I called the administration building. The administration building said there's nothing they can do about it because it's her father, no matter what the situation is," Bradford said.

We left messages for La Marque ISD's superintendent but haven't heard back. After our interview with Bradford, we waited for Ra'vone to arrive home by bus. But she never did.

"Ms. Miller told me they were running late due to the weather, they'd be 10, 15 minutes. Then I got a call back ... asking where I'm at because my child was still at school," Bradford said.

An administrator refused our questions but did talk with Bradford about what happened Wednesday evening. Still, this protective mother wants answers from administrators about why her child wasn't properly allowed to sign out and allowed to go home with a sex offender.

"I want her to be more aware, care for these kids and make sure they're safe," she said.

Bradford says she's satisfied with how the administration handled Wednesday's pick up mix up. She's waiting now for the other problem to be resolved.

CPS is investigating.
