Authorities say a train hit a homeless man who was sleeping on the tracks in northwest Houston.

This happened on Hempstead at Kempwood last night.

The train's conductor says he saw a man lying on the tracks and hit the brakes, but the train did not stop in time. It ran over the man and killed him.

Police are working on identifying the victim. They don't know why he was on the tracks.

Union Pacific operates that train and is now investigating the accident.
