Three-alarm fire burns at vacant N. Houston apartment

HOUSTON

Firefighters were called out to the scene on North Freeway near Glenburnie around 7pm. They had problems putting out the flames due to gusty winds, but were able to stand down once they figured out the building was empty.

"Once we found out that there were no possible victims, we immediately went defensive, got into a protective posture and controlled that fire," said Sr. Capt. Ray Lozano with the Houston Fire Department. "And now, we're going in to put out those little hot spots."

Residents in a nearby apartment complex were evacuated as crews battled the flames. Fortunately, there were no reports of any injuries and no other nearby structures were damaged.

The feeder road of the North Freeway is blocked with crews still on the scene.
