The New York-based nonprofit said Friday it had discovered a handwritten note that suggests prosecutor John H. Jackson may have given leniency to a jailhouse informant who said Cameron Todd Willingham confessed to killing his three children in 1991.
The note - included in an Innocence Project court filing - could suggest the witness, Johnny Webb, was charged with second-degree robbery instead of first-degree robbery.
The note is not signed or dated.
The Innocence Project wants Texas to give Willingham a posthumous pardon following his 2004 execution.
Jackson did not return a message.
