Missing teen's body found in Houston Ship Channel

HOUSTON

Houston police dive teams arrived Thursday morning to find a male body trapped between two barges in the ship channel. They had received a tip from a witness who had seen the body wash ashore near scrap metal plant Texas Port Recycling.

Both the US Coast Guard and Port Authority sent in marine units to assist removing the body.

One southeast Houston family watched the recovery effort closely, fearing the worst. Antonio Saldivar, 17, has been missing since Valentine's Day, when he told his mother he was going to deliver a gift to a girl.

Saldivar's car was found about a mile away from the ship channel. It had been totaled after hitting a pillar. A tow truck driver found his shoes inside the car. Search teams have been passing out fliers and looking for the teenager ever since.

A member of Texas EquuSearch told Eyewitness News family members have been informed the body was indeed that of Saldivar. He was found in an area that was inaccesible to searchers.
