Barbecue cook-off kicks off ahead of Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo

HOUSTON

The big event down at Reliant Park runs from today through Saturday.

Last year, nearly 300,000 people attended the traditional kickoff to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and even bigger crowds are expected this year.

A lot of the cooks out there started cooking on Wednesday. You can see the smoke rising with ribs and brisket on the racks.

More than 300 teams will be cooking and competing over three days that feature eating, live music and dancing.

Tickets are $15 for ages 13 and up. Kids between three and 12 years old are $5, and kids age two and younger are free.

Along with the food and music, there's also a carnival open from 6 to 11pm.
