Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office deputy assaulted near Lake Houston

HOUSTON

Deputy Nicolette Saunders, 22, was patrolling a neighborhood near Lake Houston in northeast Harris County when she spotted Waldo Alexander Delafuente, 19, allegedly running in the street and behaving erratically. She said she believed Delafuente was under the influence of drugs.

Deputy Saunders said Delafuente came at her in an aggressive manner, and pulled away. When she attempted to detain him a second time, she was struck in the side of the face with his elbow. But before that happened, her windshield took an even bigger hit, when the suspect jumped onto the car, and landed on his posterior, shattering the glass.

Lt. Charles Hoover with the Harris County Constable Precinct 4 Office explained, "Officer approached, he ran towards her in aggressive manner. She went to grab him, that's when he jumped on the patrol car, breaking the windshield with his backside."

The deputy, who has only been with Precinct 4 for four months, had only minor injuries. She was treated at a hospital and released.

Delafuente was also taken to the hospital, then to the Harris County Jail. He is charged with assault on a police officer and felony criminal mischief.
