Potholes cause $5,000 in damage for New Jersey driver

PENNSAUKEN, NJ

Antwine Carr tells 6ABC Action News Philadelphia that he was driving westbound on Route 38 by Route 70 near Pennsauken when he came across what he describes as a chain of potholes with one big one at the end.

Carr reportedly heard a loud cracking noise -- like a firecracker, he said -- and then three side airbags deployed in his 2006 Mercedes E 320.

He tells Action News that he was temporarily blinded by the curtain airbag. He thought he might have been struck by another vehicle, but it was just potholes.

Carr has two rims and two tires damaged, plus he needs new airbags and new panels. The estimate -- so far -- is about $5,000, and there could be more damage beneath the surface.
