Driver dies in fiery big rig crash in southeast Houston

HOUSTON

The accident happened around 7:30am on the northbound lanes of I-45 shutting those lanes down for several hours. The eastbound lanes of the South Loop from Woodridge to Broadway were also closed down.

"It was a gasoline tanker actually the fire consumed most of the fuel. It wasn't very difficult at all to extinguish the fire," said District Chief Ronnie Martin with the Houston Fire Department.

The driver of the big rig was killed in the accident. The identity of that driver hasn't been released. No one else was hurt.

All lanes were opened back up by 4:30pm.

At this point, the cause of accident is unknown. The Houston police department as well as the Arson Bureau with the Houston fire department is handling the investigation.
