'Dumb Starbucks' owner appears on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live'

LOS ANGELES, CA

Comedian Nathan Fielder told Kimmel the Hillhurst Avenue store, which looks identical to a real Starbucks but for the word "dumb" preceding its moniker, is legal because of parody law.

"The health department came ... and shut us down for selling coffee without a health permit. What they don't understand is that, technically, legally speaking, we're an art gallery. And the coffee we're selling is consider the art," Fielder said as the audience burst into laughter.

"I see," Kimmel dryly responded.

"By not having the proper health permits and paying those fees, we're able to pass those savings onto the customer," Fielder joked.

Before it closed, Dumb Starbucks served up coffee in paper Dumb Starbucks-branded cups that look like the real deal.

During his Kimmel appearance, Fielder presented the host with one of the cups filled with coffee.

"It's cold," Kimmel joked.

"I had to take it from the store, yeah, so it's been in car my all day," Fielder said.
