Houston police dodge flying deep fryers during chase

HOUSTON

Those fryers were stolen from the Chef Mart Restaurant Supply off Bissonnet at the Southwest Freeway around 12:30am.

Houston Police Department officers received word of a break-in at the restaurant supply store, where four men were apparently seen loading restaurant deep fryers into a U-Haul.

The officers went to that location, and when the U-Haul took off, it turned into a chase which took them to Willowbend and Fondren where the driver of the U-Haul slammed into a traffic control box and hydrant.

Still, the U-Haul kept going, and officers found themselves dodging deep fryers.

"Apparently, they didn't close the back of the truck and they had stolen some deep fryers and the deep fryers fell out onto the pavement, and the officers had to dodge them during the pursuit," HPD Lt. Larry Crowson said.

Police launched a full-scale search, and eventually spotted two suspects on the roof of nearby home. Both were taken into custody.
