Store clerk pinned under debris following attempted smash-and grab in northeast Houston

HOUSTON

It happened along the Eastex Freeway near Collingsworth around 4:30am.

According to authorities, several men inside a pickup truck backed into a convenience store. All three suspects in ski masks jumped out and tried to pull the ATM out of the building, but they apparently didn't create a big enough hole. The suspects then jumped back in the truck and sped off empty-handed.

There was a clerk inside at the time and he was pinned under the debris following the crash. Firefighters were able to free him. He was not hurt.

Police say the vehicle was probably stolen. The suspects remain on the loose.
